Accounting Clerk (Full-Time)
Marshall County Board of Public Utilities

This is responsible accounting and administrative work coordinating the collections of utility payments and assisting with other accounting and administrative functions and processes for the Marshall County Board of Public Utilities.  Activities associated with the job include reconciling daily cash payments and maintaining financial records required to verify cash balances, preparing daily deposits and account reconciliations, posting payments to utility accounts, and assisting customers with billing questions and other utility service issues.  Additional duties include setting up new customer accounts, assisting other departmental staff with answering incoming calls, take payments through the drive-up window, and assist with maintaining and updating customer records.  Activities associated with the job require strong data entry skills, good interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills, dedicated attention to detail and the ability to maintain detailed files and supporting documentation.  Job activities are also subject to state and independent audits.

Necessary Requirements of Work
Graduation from an accredited four-year high school; strong organizational, interpersonal and decision make skills; dedicated attention to detail; experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
  • Considerable knowledge of the water departments operational policies and procedures including required deposits, service fees, installation procedures, cut-off procedures, late payments, etc.
  • Considerable knowledge of computer database applications including proprietary programs, word processing, database management and spreadsheet applications.
  • Considerable knowledge of departmental services and operations including the connection and/or disconnection of services.
  • Ability to work with detailed and complex information in a consistently accurate and organized manner.
  • Ability to adhere to established organizational policies and procedures pertaining to accounting operations.
  • Ability to organize work related files and documentation in an organized and accessible manner.
  • Ability to maintain organizational standards of integrity while performing work related activities.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a courteous, professional, and considerate manner.
  • Ability to make timely and appropriate decisions pertaining to the connection and/or disconnection of utility services.
  • Skill in typing and data entry and the use of computer software applications including word processing, database management and spreadsheet applications.
  • Skill in the use of computer terminals and 10 key calculators.
