Lead Custodian (Full-Time)
Marshall County Maintenance Department

This is responsible labor-intensive and supervisory custodial work for Marshall County Government to provide a safe, clean, and appealing environment at nine (9) County buildings (Marshall County Courthouse; Courthouse Annex; Hardison Office Annex; Marshall County Health Department; Marshall County Memorial Library; Highway Patrol Station; Marshall County Solid Waste; and Marshall County Emergency Medical Services buildings (Lewisburg and Chapel Hill), including ambulance bay.  Activities associated with this position include supervising a full-time and part-time custodian, setting cleaning schedules, ordering, and maintaining cleaning supplies, and keeping abreast of American Flag half-staff notifications. Other activities include maintaining restrooms and break areas, vacuuming hallways and stairwells, dusting floors and blinds, cleaning entranceway windows, spot cleaning carpeting, emptying trash, maintaining clean and safe entranceways; and carpet cleaning, stripping and waxing floors, and tile buffing twice per year. Job related duties require good organizational, supervisory, time management and interpersonal skills, and sufficient strength and agility to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job.  Job performance is evaluated by the Maintenance Supervisor and County Mayor through review of the overall cleanliness of County facilities, supervisory skills, ability to effectively prioritize activities and meet workload demands, and organizational and time management skills.

Necessary Requirements of Work
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED preferred; good interpersonal, organizational and time management skills, and sufficient strength, and agility to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job in a variety of weather conditions; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
 
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; read labels, manuals, and instructions.
  • Ability to perform the physically demanding requirements of the job in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to consistently follow established policies and procedures pertaining to the operation of County facilities.
  • Ability to make appropriate and timely decisions based upon the information available.
  • Knowledge of effective supervisory techniques and practices including the selection, evaluation, motivation, and discipline and/or discharge of staff.

Necessary Special Requirements
  • Completion of criminal background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle report.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s license and the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates.

Physical Requirements
  • This is heavy work requiring considerable static, explosive, dynamic and trunk strength and requiring the exertion of up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force constantly and up to 5 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
  • Visual acuity is required for the inspection of small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of cleaning equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, color differentiation, and observing general surroundings.
  • The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, temperature extremes, cleaning products, odors, noise, and slippery surfaces.
