Chief Deputy Register of Deeds (Full-Time)
Marshall County Register of Deeds’ Office
This is very responsible administrative, supervisory, and accounting work involving a variety of administrative and accounting transactions and overseeing and assisting with receipting, recording, and filing of documents for the Register of Deeds office. Activities associated with the job include ensuring that daily bank deposits are made, preparing cash journals, escrow accounts and accounts receivable and overseeing and assisting with month end accounting transactions. Additional activities include performing a variety of detailed and complex transactions pertaining to property ownership in Marshall County and collecting the appropriate fees charged for each of these transactions. Job responsibilities also include providing assistance to individuals needing information regarding property parcels, calculating fees for various property transactions, scanning documents into the computer database, and assisting with office cash transactions. The incumbent also assists with personnel related decisions, budgeting and purchasing activities. Job related duties require thorough experience performing detailed administrative and accounting transactions and working with the public, 5thorough knowledge of the state recording laws pertaining to the registration of deeds, strong organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills, supervisory experience, dedicated attention to detail, the ability to prioritize daily, weekly, and monthly activities and follow established policies and procedures without exception. Job performance is evaluated by the Register of Deeds through review of the knowledge of laws governing the registration of deeds, accuracy, and thoroughness of completed accounting and property registration transactions, level of administrative support provided for the office, ability to interact effectively with co-workers, public officials and the public and adherence to established policies and procedures. Job activities are also subject to annual state audits.
Necessary Requirements of Work
Graduation from an accredited four year high school supplemented with additional course work and/or training in real estate, banking, office management, accounting or related field; thorough experience working in a government office setting and serving the public; strong organizational, interpersonal and decision making skills; thorough experience performing detailed administrative and accounting transactions; dedicated attention to detail; supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

- Thorough knowledge of accounting transactions including the reconciliation of accounts, use of journal entries and internal controls, double entry accounting, etc.
- Thorough knowledge the operational policies and procedures established for the Register of Deeds office.
- Thorough knowledge of state recording laws for Register of Deeds Office including T.C.A. volumes IIA, 3 and 8A.
Necessary Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid Tennessee Driver’s License and the ability to obtain insurance at standard vehicle liability rates.
- Completion of a criminal background check and drug screen.
- Must have previous Register of Deeds experience.
