Circuit Court Bookkeeper/Jury Coordinator
Marshall County Courthouse
This is very responsible legal, administrative, and accounting work with responsibility for the financial activities and jury coordination for the Marshall County Circuit Court. Activities associated with the job include preparing all daily deposits, counting cash boxes, checking all disbursements in preparation for writing checks and closing the books for all four courts including Circuit, General Sessions, Juvenile and Juvenile Quest for the month and year end. Additional activities include reconciling bank statements and monitoring all accounts on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis. The incumbent is also responsible for coordinating all jury related activities including monitoring the judge’s calendars, maintaining a list of all jury trials, and selecting jurors from the computer twice a year. Job related duties require considerable contact with the public, attorneys, judges and law enforcement personnel, considerable knowledge of Circuit Court proceedings, considerable experience performing accounting and other financial activities, considerable knowledge of legal and judicial processes and protocols, dedicated attention to detail and strong interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills. Job performance is evaluated by the Circuit Court Clerk through review of the efficiency of Circuit Court operations, accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness of completed work, knowledge, and level of support for the administrative and accounting functions associated with Circuit Court operations, accuracy timeliness and thoroughness of all financial activities, organizational and decision-making skills, and ability to interact successfully with the public. Job-related duties are also subject to annual state audits.
Necessary Requirements of Work
Graduation from an accredited four year high school supplemented with additional course work in office or business administration and/or paralegal studies; a minimum of three years’ experience working in circuit/sessions court operations or for a law office or an attorney; considerable experience performing a variety of detailed accounting functions; considerable knowledge of the rules and regulations pertaining to the selection and coordination of juries for civil and criminal trials; ability to perform numerous interrelated tasks in an organized and efficient manner; strong interpersonal, organizational and accounting skills; dedicated attention to detail; or any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience to provide the following critical knowledge, abilities and skills:

Necessary Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid Tennessee Driver’s License and the ability to obtain vehicle insurance at standard rates.
- Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
- Thorough knowledge of acceptable budgetary practices and accounting controls required to meet state auditing standards.
- Considerable knowledge of the Tennessee Code Annotated statutes pertaining to Civil, Criminal, and/or Circuit court proceedings including applicable costs, fines, and punishment for various criminal offenses.
- Considerable knowledge of State Court Clerk’s Manual including all processes and procedures for the issuance and proper maintenance of all legal documents encountered on the job.
