Custodian (Part-Time)

This is responsible labor-intensive custodial work for Marshall County Government in order to provide a safe, clean, and appealing environment at nine (9) County buildings (Marshall County Courthouse; Courthouse Annex; Hardison Office Annex; Marshall County Health Department; Marshall County Memorial Library; Highway Patrol Station; Marshall County Solid Waste; and Marshall County Emergency Medical Services buildings (Lewisburg and Chapel Hill), including ambulance bay.   Activities associated with this position include maintaining restrooms and break areas, vacuuming hallways and stairwells, dusting floors and blinds, cleaning entranceway windows, spot cleaning carpeting, emptying trash, maintaining clean and safe entranceways. Other activities include carpet cleaning, stripping and waxing floors, and tile buffing twice per year. Job related duties require good organizational, time management and interpersonal skills, as well as sufficient strength and agility to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job.  Job performance is evaluated by the Maintenance Supervisor and Lead Custodian through review of the overall cleanliness of County facilities, ability to effectively prioritize activities and meet workload demands, and organizational and time management skills.

Necessary Requirements of Work
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED preferred; good interpersonal, organizational and time management skills, and sufficient strength, and agility to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job in a variety of weather conditions; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
  • Maintains restrooms by disinfecting, mopping, sweeping, cleaning commodes, urinals, and sinks, emptying trash, and wiping down all surfaces in order to prevent the spread of illness; restocks restroom supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, and soap) as needed.
  • Vacuums high traffic areas, stairwells, elevators, and offices as needed.
  • Spot cleans carpet and entrance rugs; replaces rugs as needed.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; read labels, manuals, and instructions.
  • Ability to perform the physically demanding requirements of the job in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to consistently follow established policies and procedures pertaining to the operation of County facilities.
  • Ability to make appropriate and timely decisions based upon the information available.

Necessary Special Requirements
  • Completion of a criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s license and the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates.
