Youth Services Administrative Assistant

This is very responsible legal and administrative work assisting Youth Services Office staff who deal with juveniles and their families assigned to or seeking the services of the Marshall County Juvenile Court System.  Additional responsibilities include processing and docketing petitions, contacting defendants and/or petitioners to obtain information, assisting probation officers and other service providers and performing various administrative support activities.  The incumbent works closely with the Juvenile Court Judge(s) and other departmental staff to provide information and insure the proper documentation of files, processing of orders, etc. for juveniles under the office’s purview.  Activities associated with the job require experience dealing with troubled youth and their families, experience working with local and regional social service agencies, considerable experience working in the juvenile court system, dedicated attention to detail and significant organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.  Work is evaluated by the Director of Youth Services through review of the accuracy and thoroughness of completed administrative assignments, knowledge of juvenile court proceedings along with resources available in the community to assist troubled youth, ability to respond effectively to heavy workloads and unexpected situations, and organizational and interpersonal skills.

Necessary Requirements of Work
Graduation from an accredited four-year high school supplemented with additional training in criminal justice, office management or related field; experience working with troubled youth and adolescents; knowledge of the laws pertaining to juveniles regarding criminal offenses, custody and state supervision; strong organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills; experience working with juvenile court systems and school systems; or any equivalent combination of education or experience.
 
  • Considerable knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to juveniles regarding criminal offenses, custody, confidentiality, emancipation, probation, and incarceration.
  • Considerable knowledge of treatment options available in the community to address mental health needs, chemical dependency issues and family dynamics.
  • Ability to assist with the preparation and maintenance of confidential records and reports of juveniles assigned to the Marshall County Juvenile Court Services.

Necessary Special Requirements
  • Possession of a valid Tennessee Driver’s License and the ability to obtain vehicle insurance at standard rates.
  • Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
